Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre

The Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre is one of the most beautiful Stalin-era buildings in Almaty. Established in 1934 on the foundation of a musical studio created the previous year, the theater's construction began under the guidance of architects N. A. Kruglov, N. A. Prostakov, and T. K. Bassenov, along with artists V. Kroshin and N. Tsivchinsky. Despite the hardships of the Great Patriotic War, the building was completed in 1941, and the theater earned the status of "academic" that same year.
